We use a John Deere single disc drill for our seeding purposes. It has the ability to seed into traditional tillage conditions and true no till conditions without the aid of a coulter package. We have used the drill to plant Alfalfa, Sanfoin, Orchard Grass, Red Clover, Timothy, Meadow Brome (works best as a mix), Wheat, and Barley.
The most economical way to rejuvenate a pasture or hay field is to direct seed into the existing forage stand to add beneficial plants. For an old stand that needs to be completely restored it is best to terminate the existing plants with chemical and then direct seed into the field or pasture. If the field is rough or rocky it should be rolled ahead of seeding to achieve the best results for germination and equipment longevity.
